# Quickstart

> Add Cohesive as a connector in Claude and make your first tool call.

Adding the connector takes about a minute. You sign in to Cohesive in a browser tab, Claude stores the result, and the tools appear.

## Before you start

You need a Cohesive account and a client that speaks [Streamable HTTP](https://modelcontextprotocol.io/specification/2025-06-18/basic/transports). Claude.ai and Claude Desktop both do, and both handle the sign-in for you.

## Connect

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open connector settings">
    In Claude, go to **Settings → Connectors** and choose **Add custom connector**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Enter the server URL">
    Paste the endpoint and confirm.

    ```
    https://mcp.cohesive.ai/mcp
    ```
  </Step>

  <Step title="Sign in to Cohesive">
    Claude opens a Cohesive sign-in page. Approve the connection, and the tab hands you back to Claude.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Check what you got">
    Ask Claude to call `cohesive_info`. It reports the organization and user you're acting as, which toolsets are mounted, and how many tools are on the wire.
  </Step>
</Steps>

## Make a first call

Ask for something that reads before it writes:

```text theme={null}
List my Cohesive Workspaces, then show me the five most recent Canvases in the first one.
```

Claude calls [`cohesive_workspace_list`](/mcp-server/tools/workspace#cohesive_workspace_list), then [`cohesive_canvas_list`](/mcp-server/tools/canvas#cohesive_canvas_list) with a `limit`. Both are read-only, so nothing changes in your Workspace.

When you're ready to write, try a note:

```text theme={null}
Create a Canvas called "Launch plan" in my Workspace and add a sticky note listing the three things blocking us.
```

That's [`cohesive_canvas_create`](/mcp-server/tools/canvas#cohesive_canvas_create) followed by [`cohesive_canvas_node_add_note`](/mcp-server/tools/canvas#cohesive_canvas_node_add_note).

<Tip>
  The agent doesn't have to guess a tool's arguments. [`cohesive_help`](/mcp-server/tools/meta#cohesive_help) returns the full reference for any tool path — pass `canvas node add-note` to see every flag, rule, and example behind `cohesive_canvas_node_add_note`.
</Tip>
