# Search tools

`search` · 1 tool · Mounted by `default`

One tool, across Canvases, files, and chats you have access to.

Every call also carries an exit code and timing in `_meta`, and errors come back as results rather than transport failures. See [Results](/mcp-server/reference/results).

## cohesive\_search

**Hints** — read-only, idempotent

Search everything you can access. Searches names, file paths, and AI summaries across workspaces, canvases, chats, and files, grouped by resource type.

| Argument | Type | Required | Description |

| `query` | string | Required | Query. |
| `limit` | integer | Optional | Per-type result cap (max 20). Defaults to `10`. |
| `type` | array of string | Optional | Restrict to resource types (workspace, canvas, chat, file); repeatable. Values containing commas are split. One of `workspace`, `canvas`, `chat`, `file`. |

**Returns** — JSON, as text content and as structured content.
