# Quick Chat and voice

> Start a private Canvas conversation at your cursor or dictate a request.

Press `C` on a Canvas to open Quick Chat at your cursor. Select source cards first to include them in your request.

## Start Quick Chat

    Press `C`, or choose **Quick Chat** from the Canvas menu.

    Choose an agent before the first message if the picker is available. Type your request and send it.

A chat bubble anchors the conversation on the Canvas. Open it to continue the same session. The floating panel can be moved, minimized, or opened in the session pane.

Generated Canvas artifacts are visible to collaborators; your conversation is private.

## Voice input

Press `V` or choose **Voice input** to dictate a request. Grant microphone permission when the browser asks.

Stop recording to review and edit the transcription before sending. The send control during recording stops and sends the transcription directly, so use Stop first when you want to check it.

When live transcription is enabled, text appears while you speak. Availability depends on your organization's settings.

## Choose the right conversation

Use Quick Chat for work beside specific cards. Open the session pane when you want more space for a longer conversation.

Press `Q` for a [shared comment](/product/collaboration/comments). Comments and Quick Chat are separate: comments discuss the work with teammates; Quick Chat directs the agent privately.

## The microphone isn't working

Check browser microphone permission and the selected device under **Settings → Audio**. Close another application using the microphone if it prevents recording, then try again.
