# Automations

> Run saved instructions on a schedule in a Workspace or Canvas.

An Automation runs saved instructions in a chosen Workspace or Canvas. Use one for a recurring brief, a review of connected records, or an update to an existing artifact.

## Choose the location

| Location | Use it when |
| - | - |
| **Canvas** | The job uses a specific surface and should work with its source cards and artifacts. |
| **Workspace** | The job uses Workspace files and doesn't need a particular Canvas. |

Runs use the Automation owner's access and available connections. Sharing its Canvas doesn't give someone else your personal Connector or model subscription.

## Create an Automation

    Select **Automations** above the left rail. Open the create menu and choose **Automation**, or **With Agent** to describe the task in a conversation.

  <Step title="Name the task and write instructions">
    State the sources, time range, output, and any actions. For example: *"Each Monday, review the last week's customer notes and update the weekly brief. Cite the meetings and list unresolved commitments."*

  <Step title="Choose a location and agent">
    Select the Workspace or Canvas. If **Runs on** is available, choose the agent and model for its runs.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Set the schedule">
    Choose **Daily**, **Weekly**, **Monthly**, or **Yearly**, then set the relevant days, time, and time zone. Choose **No schedule** to create it paused.

  <Step title="Create and inspect a first run">
    Click **Create automation**. Use **Run now** from its menu, then open the run to check its output before relying on the recurring schedule.

Recurring runs must be at least 30 minutes apart. The form offers common schedules; the agent can help configure a supported cadence.

## Write instructions that can run again

Specify where the result belongs and how it should be updated. “Update the weekly brief on this Canvas” is clearer than “write a summary.”

For external changes, specify what may change and what should remain a draft. Scheduled runs use their configured permission mode and can need confirmation; a schedule doesn't itself authorize every action.
