# Manage your Skills

> Create, import, edit, invoke, and archive personal Skills.

Open **Skills** in the left rail to browse your personal Skills and templates.

## Create a Skill

<Steps>
  <Step title="Open the create menu">
    In the Skills view, choose **Create from scratch**.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Write the instructions">
    Give the Skill a clear name and description. Add the process, format, or criteria it should apply.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Choose its mode">
    Set it to **Auto** for relevant tasks the agent can recognize, or **Manual** for tasks where you want to select it yourself.
  </Step>

  <Step title="Try it on real work">
    Invoke it in a new request. Review the result and refine the instructions if they were ambiguous.
  </Step>
</Steps>

You can also ask the agent to create a Skill explicitly.

## Import and export

Use **Upload a skill** to import a Skill package. A Skill's main instructions live in a `SKILL.md` file; packages can include supporting files.

Use the Skill's download action to keep an exported copy. Review imported instructions before applying them to your work.

## Auto and Manual

Click the mode control in the Skill pane, or use **Set to Auto** or **Set to Manual** from its menu.

Auto makes a Skill available for matching tasks. Manual keeps it available for explicit use. Neither mode changes the instructions themselves.

## Invoke a Skill

Type `/` in the chat composer and select a Skill, or open the Skills picker. This applies the chosen Skill to the request regardless of its Auto or Manual setting.

## Edit and archive

Open the Skill to edit its description, instructions, and supporting files. You can also ask the agent to update a Skill you own; built-in and organization templates should be copied before personal customization.

Choose **Archive** when a Skill should stop being used. Restore it from [Archived](/product/workspace/archive) when needed.
