A session is one conversation with the agent. Start separate sessions for distinct tasks while keeping their sources and artifacts on the same Canvas.

Manage sessions

Open the Canvas’s chat pane and use its session controls to select an existing conversation or start a new one. Quick Chat bubbles also represent sessions. Archive a session when you no longer want it in active views. Archiving a conversation doesn’t remove the separate artifacts it produced on the Canvas.

Choose an agent before the first message

An empty session can still change its agent. Once you send its first message, the agent choice is fixed. To switch from Cohesive to ChatGPT or Claude, start a new session and choose it there. Supported model changes remain available within an existing session. See Choose an agent.

Continue a piece of work

Return to the same session for follow-up instructions. Mention or select the artifact you want revised, especially if the session contains several tasks. A conversation’s history helps the agent continue; it doesn’t guarantee every earlier detail stays in its active context indefinitely. Keep important source material in files and recurring instructions in Skills.

Privacy

Collaborators see shared Canvas content, but not each other’s sessions. Use comments for a visible team discussion. Conversations persist beyond the browser tab. Closing a tab doesn’t archive its session.
